Elaina's Echo

Roughly 225 years ago, mixed-raced women were publicly called Basterds or Nigger Bitches, but now they are called Mulattos. Historically, Elaina was destined to fall under the Partus Sequitur Ventrem doctrine. 
 
Children born to enslaved mothers in English crown colonies in the Americas gave slave owners property rights to their children, turning enslaved reproduction into capital gains. Multiracial children with white mothers, however, were born free under the same doctrine. Mr. Robert John Edgefield unknowingly changed the law of the Crown. 
 
Annalisa, his newly acquired property, captured his heart in 1832. She realized he was not your typical slaver as he pursued her affection. Mr. Edgefield aired Annalisa, who had never endured the sting of a whip, the prick of a cotton shell, or the blistering heat. In 1833, after Annalisa gave birth to fraternal twins Elaina and Pharoah, Mr. Edgefield's wife, Beatrice, once a head at the Edgefield plantation, became Roberts' estranged wife.
 
Upon realizing the danger looming ahead, Annalisa, Lucy, and her friend Oana create protection spells. When Pharaoh and Elaina were two years old, the spells were activated. Elaina stayed in the 1800s while Pharaoh was taken into the future.
There were three complex spells, with the last compacted with layers. A hundred and fifty-four years later, in 2017, the first spell was released in the pilot book, Between, when Abigail and Moca met. 
 
A century and fifty-six years later, in the sequel, Between Conception, Abigail Elaina Edgefield is no longer known as she is now Elaina Taff, an unknown-origin woman living in Atlanta with her husband Moca and their two children. A second protection spell has been lifted.
 
In this threequel, Elaina's Echo, the final protected spells will be lifted in layers. Everyone's role in the safety of Elaina and Pharoah is explained. The final layer in the third spell will release echoes of change across time once Elaina and Pharoah are reunited.
